PLAYER/FAMILY CODE OF CONDUCT

Baseball skill development is aided by strong work ethic and character. We are looking for young men who want to advance in the game of baseball, in a way that demonstrates mental toughness, moral character, and strong self-control.  We need the help and commitment from players, parents and involved family members to make this happen. By signing up for FFBC, you agree to the following codes of conduct:

  • All players, parents, family members, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves honestly, professionally, and in a manner that is respectful of all other teams, players, umpires, coaches, parents, and spectators.
  • While attendance at all team practices, scrimmages and tournaments is the expectation, we understand life happens. Parents agree to clear all absences with the coaching staff in advance, so team plans can be made accordingly.
  • Players are expected to have a strong work ethic and must be willing to play and practice with athletic intensity. Repeated poor attitude, laziness, or unsportsmanlike comments are hurtful to the team and will not be tolerated.
  • Coaches can’t always look for the best player at any single position, and they will position players in a way that maximizes the benefit to the overall team. Outside of skill level, our coaches will also be considering game focus, commitment, eagerness to learn/adapt in a position, and ability to energize and motivate other team members.
  • There will be no formal minimum play requirements and players are expected to earn their positions and playing time through practice and game opportunities. That said, winning is not the only objective, and our coaches are personally committed to the overall development and growth opportunities for all committed players.
  • Players are expected to display sportsmanship and regard for the safety and condition of players from the opposing team, even when the opposing team doesn’t exercise the same values.
  • Throwing a bat, helmet, or other piece of equipment at any time will not be tolerated, nor will any negative comments directed towards other players or umpires.
  • Foul and/or offensive language from a player, parent or family member will not be tolerated at any time. We ask that you be responsible for your family members and guests at all practice and game functions.
  • For the safety of the players, and as a requirement of our team insurance, all adult volunteers are required to have an annual background check and only cleared persons will be permitted on the practice fields, game fields, or in the dugout. If a parent and/or family member has the willingness and experience to help during practices, please contact the coaching staff for further discussion.
  • To make this experience affordable to all families, FFBC will not be utilizing paid coaches and we will make our best effort to balance the overall baseball experience with the cost to the family.
  • Our coaches are happy to discuss feedback from players, parents or involved family members, but please remember that our coaches are volunteers. Please plan an appropriate place and time for these conversations to be conducted, either in private or with the appropriate audience.  We ask that parents exercise a 24 hour “cooling off” period and avoid discussing these issues at games or during practices.
  • Even with best intentions, coaching from the sidelines is confusing, distracting and not helpful. Please allow the coaches to work with players at the appropriate time and let all other feedback from parents and other family members be appropriate, positive, and encouraging.
  • The most important involvement of the parent and other family members is the support of your player, other players, the team, and your volunteer coaching staff. Negative behavior is disruptive to FFBC’s purpose and parents are expected to help the coaches maintain an edifying culture on the field, in the dugout, and in the fan viewing areas.
  • The consequences for violations of any of the above-mentioned codes may range in severity from players sitting out, to practice and/or game suspensions, and in extreme circumstances, dismissal, at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Team Insurance and Release of Liability

Our team will carry the required insurance through a reputable agency (such as NCS Baseball). The team insurance includes secondary medical insurance, which comes into effect after the appropriate primary insurance has been billed and coverage determined. As a condition of team insurance coverage, a release of liability will be required for each registered player.
